Vmware Esxi 5.5 License Key 14: Where to Find and Download the Latest Version of VMware Products



This bundle of vSphere and vRealize Operations allows you to upgrade the versions of individual components independent of each other. If you are using vSphere 5.5 as part of vSOM, you will need to upgrade your vSphere with Operations Management 5.5 license key, to be able to upgrade the vSphere component. The VMware vSphere Hypervisor (ESXi) with IBM Customization provides a 60-day evaluation license to allow full use of ESXi and vCenter operations. You must license your vSphere environment before its 60-day evaluation period expires. After the 60-day evaluation period expires, you are no longer able to perform some operations in vCenter Server and ESXi. If you want to continue to have full use of ESXi and vCenter Server operations, you must acquire a license.


Without a license, you are able to perform some operations, but you cannot power on or reset your virtual machines. All hosts are disconnected from the vCenter Server system if the evaluation period expires before you assign a license to the vCenter Server system. Any single ESXi host is disconnected from the vCenter Server system if the ESX/ESXi evaluation period expires before you assign a license to the host.


As you may or may not know VMware announced the new vSAN with vSphere5.5. vSAN is currently in public beta but it is very easy to get startedtesting it out in your new vSphere 5.5 environment. First thing youshould do is head overhereand get signed up to get your license key which is required to use vSAN.All functionality is already built into vSphere 5.5 but you will need toenter a license key.


vSphere 6.5 has been released and as known from previous versions, VMware provides a free version of their Hypervisor ESXi for everyone again. The license key can be created for free at VMwares website. It has no expiration date. The binaries you will receive as "Free Hypervisor" are 100% identical to the paid version.


When the evaluation period ends, the ESXi host will disconnect from vCenter Server. All powered on virtual machines continue to work, but you cannot power on virtual machines after they are powered off. You cannot change the current configuration of the features that are in use. You cannot use the features that remained unused before the license expiration.

Remember, the vCenter license that comes with VMware vSphere, the vCenter Server evaluation license, lasts 60 days, as do the other VMware evaluation licenses. This means your vCenter server license expires on day 61 if you forgot to enter the vCenter license key at the time of deployment.


It should be as easy as just grabbing the vCenter license key and plopping it in to VMware vCenter, but sometimes it is not. I am going to show you one of the most common issues I have seen when updating and expired VMware vCenter server license and how to fix it. This lesson also applies to updating or assigning ESXi licenses, or vSAN licenses.


There is not an easy way to get around the evaluation license other than rebuilding vCenter. Once again, it is important to make sure you always enter a valid license into vCenter for any production environment!


There are two components when you are adding a license like the vCenter license to VMware vSphere. First, you must add the license to vCenter server. Then, you assign it to an asset, in this case vCenter itself.


I am sure you have seen this screen before, but look what happened when I tried to copy and paste my complete vCenter license key in! It did not make it. This can be frustrating since if you forgot to put your key in, chances are things are not working in your environment very well at all at the moment. Take a deep breath.


Now, back to your vCenter server license key. I can only see the first five characters I pasted in, and I could not add the license key to vCenter. If you see this issue, do not panic. There is still a way to get that key into vCenter.


Say goodbye to adding hosts to your inventory. If your ESXi host licenses are also expired, then you will really be in trouble. Remember, the vCenter evaluation license and the VMware ESXi evaluation license only last 60 days. You will begin to have problems on day 61.


Remember, ESXi licenses and vCenter Server licenses are not the same thing. Ensure you have the license key for vCenter Server Standard, not an ESXi license key. They are different even though they both have a 60 day evaluation period.


Both vCenter and ESXi licenses are critical to the smooth operation of a vSphere environment. I strongly suggest verifying licenses as part of the verification and testing process before your production environment is live.


Attempting to apply our 2 licenses to our new ESXi 6.5 2 socket server BUT as i attempt to applying each license key I get the message " This host has more sockets (2) than the provided license is valid for (1), please provide a different license"


I don't think the details are different per version. I've only ever had vmware (4, 5.5 and now 6.0) on this physical hardware, so I have yet to see your scenario-- moving to new hardware. Don't know if I'd have change my license. Never have had to do anything more than push buttons to get a new key between each major version.


Thanks for the responses guys. Found that through the My VMWare support portal, they could combine the two license keys and through their system produce a single license key for a dual socket processors. I logged an official support case with them explaining that Dell sent two license keys. They made an log entry note in my account that they combined the two keys. they send me the new key which I applied and it worked successfully. Now on to the next hurdle! Thanks for the help!
